At UFC 303’s headliner, Alex Pereira pulled off another sensational knockout, which has secured his title position and established him as one of the most incredible fighters in history. The interim title holder, who substituted for McGregor after the original matched was cancelled due to the latter’s leg injury, appeared as if he was coming off a grueling 10-week preparation as he systematically broke down Jiri Prochazka on the mat. Pereira showed himself from his best side, revealing what can be really powerful leg kicks and punches in the UFC.
During UFC 303 anytime, Alex Pereira showed dominance once again. He fought Mike Johnson who was knocked out when McGregor pulled out at short notice and served to further solidify his standing as one of the elite fighters in the world. For a fighter who has had reduced training time, Pereira moved like a true professional, strategically making his way to beat down on Jiri Prochazka as if planing on what blows to land next. It was a crazy approach of punishing leg kicks and possibly, the best punching power in the UFC.
The turning point came at the end of the first round when Pereira attacked with a wonderful left hook that left Prochazka out cold almost. And, Pereira decided the outcome of the bout at the very start of the second round with a head kick that floored Prochazka. The UFC 303 match could be stopped well before it went to the second round, and with a simple and fast knockout, Pereira showed that he deserved to be considered the current champion, leaving Prochazka shocked.
“It was great,” Pereira said of the win. “I was saying all week, I was going to come out here and be victorious. I don’t know what the next step is. I’m taking these opportunities. Everything that’s coming my way is positive, so this is what I’m doing.”
Thus, despite several attempts to alter the course of his fate in the rematch with Pereira, Prochazka was unsuccessful. Right from the onset of the bout, getting into stance, he sought to guard his shins against the leg kicks with which Pereira is known to have pluralized. Pereira tried, but he could not do that, he was constantly one or two kicks away from cracking the bone.
Although given a short notice and set to face a strong opponent whom he recently beat, Pereira once again gave a memorable performance at UFC 303 in Las Vegas, stopping Jiri Prochazka by a second-round knockout. The first fight was stopped as some thought it was quite early in the fight but this time around Pereira did not allow Prochazka to assert his authority as he took charge of the match.
For his excellent performance, the light heavyweight champion received the $50,000 Performance of the Night award, which is already the fifth in the fighter’s career since joining the UFC in 2021.
