After triumphantly returning to the mound in May following his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks faces another challenge. He recently underwent Tommy John surgery, necessitating a minimum one-year absence from the game.


Throughout the current season, Hendriks showcased his talent in five remarkable outings for the White Sox, achieving two wins and one save. Before joining the Chicago team between 2021 and 2022, he established himself as one of baseball's premier relievers during his tenure with the Oakland Athletics from 2019 to 2020.


Over three full seasons (excluding the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign without an All-Star Game), Hendriks showcased exceptional performance with three All-Star team selections. His impressive statistics included a 2.26 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and an outstanding 13.5 K/9 rate. As a dominant closer, he amassed an impressive total of 114 saves, 38 of which were league-leading in the American League.

Furthermore, Hendriks received the prestigious Jimmy V Award for Perseverance in July, acknowledging his inspirational comeback to the mound during the current season.
