On Saturday, Christoph Baumgartner of Austria achieved a historic milestone by scoring the fastest-ever international goal. In just six seconds, he found the back of the net during Austria's 2-0 victory against Slovakia. This remarkable feat underscores Baumgartner's agility and precision on the field, contributing significantly to his team's success.
As soon as the game started, he dashed past the Slovakian defense and blasted the ball into the net from far away. The goal sparked wild celebrations - his teammates mobbed him, and Austrian fans in the stands jumped with joy.
The 24-year-old's goal clocked in even quicker than Lukas Podolski's legendary strike for Germany against Ecuador in 2013, which held the previous record at seven seconds.
Austria had to wait over 80 minutes before scoring their second goal, which came from Andreas Weinmann, securing their 2-0 victory.
In the evening showdown, Florian Wirtz smashed Germany's quickest international goal record as they triumphed 2-0 over France in Lyon, taking only a fraction longer than Baumgartner to hit the back of the net.
His goal, just slightly quicker than Podolski's in 2013, was the result of a well-rehearsed plan. He capitalized on Toni Kroos' precise long pass from midfield, advancing unchallenged before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box.
German coach Julian Nagelsmann commented “It was important to protect the lead and after the break we improved further and carved out more chances. I am very satisfied with the way we fought. It is what we wish, to give it all every time.”
France struggled to bounce back from the early setback, and with Kai Havertz netting Germany's second goal shortly after halftime, the 2022 World Cup runners-up couldn't reclaim lost ground. Germany held firm to their two-goal lead until the final whistle.
