In a surprising twist, the British cyclist reversed his decision to retire and opted for one more year. The goal is to surpass Eddy Merckx's record of 34 stage wins, currently tying with him.

Cavendish exuded positivity as he casually walked through a cozy environment, recording a selfie video. The previous season was intended to mark the end of Cavendish's professional cycling career. His plan was to retire on a high note, surpassing Merckx's record and securing his position as the greatest stage winner in the history of Le Tour.

After regaining fitness, Cavendish spent the summer back on the bike. On October 4, 2023, he surprised few by posting a video on his Instagram account, officially declaring his comeback.

"I was ready, at peace, but the more I've ridden this summer (in 2023), I just like riding my bike. I spoke to the kids, and I said, what should dad do? And they said, 'Carry on'. It wasn't even a question. So here we are, just one more year heh?" he says with a grin.
