Dodgers Tie Series 1-1 After Loss; Ohtani Goes Hitless

In Game 2 of the National League Championship Series held on October 14 (October 15, Japan Time) in Los Angeles, the Dodgers faced a tough defeat against the Mets, concluding the game with a score of 7-3. This loss evened the series at one win apiece.

In this matchup, Shohei Ohtani, batting as the designated hitter for the Dodgers, struggled significantly. He went hitless in five at-bats, recording two strikeouts and drawing two walks. Ohtani faced Mets’ unconventional left-handed pitcher, Manaea, and was unable to connect in his first two at-bats, both resulting in strikeouts. In his third at-bat, he struck out again, failing to swing at three straight pitches.

Ohtani finally got on base in the ninth inning with a somewhat intentional walk from Mets closer Diaz, but his teammates could not capitalize on the opportunity, as Diaz struck out three consecutive batters to end the game.

Despite the Dodgers' efforts, including notable performances from Edman and Muncy, who combined for three hits and two RBIs, the team's upper lineup, including Ohtani, went without a hit. In the eighth inning, the Dodgers attempted a double steal with two outs but were unable to overcome their earlier deficit.

This hitless performance marks Ohtani's second consecutive game without a hit in the postseason. In the playoffs so far, he has had 27 at-bats, recording six hits, one home run, five RBIs, and five walks, but has also struck out 12 times. The Dodgers will need to regroup as they look ahead to the rest of the series.
