Endo Points to Surge of Japanese Players in England as Sign of Growing Global Football Value

Endo Points to Surge of Japanese Players in England as Sign of Growing Global Football Value

Arne Slot has limited the Japanese international to few appearances on the pitch. In general, Endo has been a bench player throughout the regular season besides some games as well as preseason.

However, given how Liverpool’s calendar becomes tighter as the break for international games fades away, a twist might be expected. Those are going to sell like hot cakes.

In the meantime, Endo has traveled back to Japan for international commitments. He will be yearning to polish his intercession for love before going back to Merseyside.

Before the Japanese national team’s match against China tomorrow, Endo was in the limelight as the team captain carrying out media responsibilities. Speaking with the Japanese press during a news conference, Endo shared a curious request made by Liverpool’s employees.

He disclosed that the Reds have been approaching him for information on Japanese players and their opinions on various players. The ability level of these players has been asked to be assessed by him.

"I get the impression that the evaluation of Japanese players who have transferred to England is gradually increasing. I think there is a lot of interest in Japanese players from all over the world. I am also asked by Liverpool staff about Japanese players, saying, 'What about that guy?' It's not that we want to transfer him, but just that he's a good player, that kind of thing," Endo revealed in his press conference

Endo makes some rather insightful comments in this case. After he joined Liverpool as the second Japanese player after signing for Liverpool in January 2020 alongside Takumi Minamino rumors have emerged indicating that Liverpool is interested in several other Japanese players.

Liverpool was said to have been interested in Takefusa Kubo and scouring the market for Ko Itakura.

Whether both of these suggested deals never came to light or not, the hypothesis holds relevance. Reading Endo’s revelation that the club officials had approached him seeking his advice on Japanese players was quite insightful.

The Japanese head coach Hajime Moriyasu nodded to the facts that many of his Under-22 football players were bound to face.

"I assume there've been lots of cases where players joined the English second tier with an eye on taking that next step to play in the Premier League, where the very best gather."

"It's about fiercely and rigorously winning their positions in competition with rivals from around the world," he said. "Knowing the values from around the world -- while maintaining those of Japan -- will help their development as players."
