Tyreek Hill dedicates himself to comprehensive opponent analysis every week. Venturing even into the virtual realm, he seeks an advantage from within. The Dolphins' standout receiver revealed to reporters on Thursday that, in the hours preceding their clash, he examines a player's "Madden NFL" rating and skill breakdown for insights.
"I feel like Madden has a good tell of how good players are," Hill said regarding the iconic video game. I just get on Madden, I go to the EA rosters and then I scroll down to see what their awareness is, their speed is and their strength and that's how I get a good tell on them."
Although unconventional, this approach has proven effective for Hill, especially considering his outstanding performance during the 2022 season, his inaugural year with the Dolphins. At 29 years old, he persisted in overpowering defensive backs, amassing an impressive 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns on 119 receptions—likely benefiting from extensive "Madden" scouting efforts.
For those curious about the initial phase of Hill's season and his scouting routine, the Dolphins will be pitted against the Chargers, Patriots, Broncos, and Bills in the opening four weeks. Hypothetically assuming that these defenses assign their premier corner to cover Hill, he will contend with J.C. Jackson in Week 1, newcomer Christian Gonzalez in Week 2, followed by Patrick Surtain II in Week 3, and finally, Tre'Davious White in Week 4.
Within the most recent iteration of Madden NFL 24, Jackson boasts an overall rating of 82, accompanied by an awareness score of 87, speed at 89, and a strength rating of 60. As for Gonzalez, his overall rating stands at 77, featuring a 68 awareness, notable speed at 93, and a strength of 59. Currently occupying the No. 3 cornerback position in the game, Surtain's overall rating is an impressive 94, highlighted by a speed rating of 93, an awareness score of 92, and a strength of 63. Lastly, White maintains an overall rating of 91, flaunting attributes including a speed of 91, an awareness of 92, and a robust strength rating of 75.
Regarding Hill himself, he boasts a remarkable 98 overall rating, securing his position as the second-highest rated receiver in the NFL. Notably, he commands the highest possible speed rating of 99 in the game.
