The announcement of the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Hall of Fame inductees is set for January 22, JST, with Ichiro Suzuki on the verge of making history. As of January 21, Ichiro is the only candidate out of 28 to maintain a perfect 100% vote share, raising hopes that he could become the first position player ever inducted into the Hall of Fame with a unanimous vote.
The voting period ended in late 2024, and according to the “Baseball Hall of Fame Vote Tracker” cited by MLB’s Japanese official site, MLB.jp, 188 votes had been made public by 9 a.m. on January 21, with an estimated vote tracking rate of 48.0%. At this point, Ichiro remains the only candidate with a perfect 100% vote rate, a remarkable feat that has yet to be achieved by any position player in MLB history.
While Mariano Rivera, the all-time MLB saves leader with 652 career saves, was the first player to be unanimously elected in 2019, no position player has ever been voted in with 100% of the votes. In 2020, Derek Jeter fell just one vote short of a unanimous election, leaving fans eager to see if Ichiro can break the barrier.
Ichiro’s historic career has already seen him inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame, where he received 92.6% of the votes (323 out of 349), just shy of a perfect vote, but still an exceptional result.
