Japanese Star Ace Roki Sasaki Cuts Another Team, Dodgers and Three Others Still in the Race

Japanese Star Ace Roki Sasaki Cuts Another Team, Dodgers and Three Others Still in the Race

With three finalists now vying for Roki Sasaki's services, he is one step closer to selecting his next squad. Three teams have shown interest in the 23-year-old Japanese pitching sensation: the Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers. As time is running out, these teams are anxiously awaiting Sasaki's decision, which is anticipated to be made by January 23. There has never been a more fierce competition to land the rising star.

Nobody is surprised by the Dodgers and Padres. Though perceptions on which side has the advantage differ, these two have been the front-runners for months. The Toronto Blue Jays, whose name only became a legitimate contender early on Monday, are the true surprise.

Sasaki has sparked a lot of interest, with almost every team closely monitoring the 23-year-old Japanese phenomenon. He poses little financial risk as an amateur free agent, which makes him an even more alluring target for any team that is fortunate enough to sign him. Only a few of large clubs remain in the hunt to sign the budding star, though, since some have already withdrawn.

Roki Sasaki, who is regarded as the best foreign prospect, has the ability to fill in and start at the top of a Major League rotation right away. His slider is only a bit below that, but it still produces a lot of whiffs. His fastball and splitter are both excellent products, receiving a 70-grade rating from MLB.com. Sasaki's flawless command is what really makes him stand out; he confidently throws all three of his main pitches for strikes and constantly hits his locations.

The Chiba Lotte Marines' supremacy on the mound is a testament to Sasaki's arsenal's potency. He recorded a tight 0.894 WHIP and an astounding 2.10 ERA across 394.2 NPB innings. His supremacy isn't limited by any stadium, as seen by the fact that he only gave up four home runs during his career in Japan and that his 505 strikeouts contrast sharply with just 88 walks.
