Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid a three-game ban for the scuffle with a reporter on Saturday night.

If you happened not to be tuned in this past Saturday then let me remind you that it started with Embiid taking offense to a piece written by a Philadelphia journalist. Embiid had a face off with the reporter in the locker room after the Sixers loss to the Grizzlies, when the verbal confrontation escalated to physical.

Though Embiid has featured for a team yet this season, he appeared set to return to the field soon. Embiid was observed staggering on the floor in Monday’s Sixers defeat against the Suns.

When Joel Embiid and a man from the media engaged in fisticuffs, the NBA came in to separate them because such an act could not go unrewarded. Such an exchange required a response, no matter the kind of comments or protestations made.

Embiid, who has been scrutinized this season, was once again accused of load management after toying with fans’ concerns over his decision to sit out in consecutive games. This issue was outright aired in a piece by reporter Hayes, who focused on how many games Embiid has not played due to limited activity.

Because of strategical decisions, Embiid will be out for three games instead of a rest which was not considered when the season began. This ban is a huge and unprecedented strike to the early campaign.

It was already a given that Joel Embiid would not be playing against Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Was he anticipating for a comeback when L.A. game will be played? It was rather clearly so, as he went with the team.

However, he will not be able to play this weekend against the Lakers because even if fully cleared medically his suspension begins immediately. Finally the purple and gold, who are never reluctant to snatch a win any which way that they can get it, just manage to avoid losing the match. But then, it is a bigger setback for the Lakers especially because Anthony Davis’ availability is still uncertain.
