In the Chargers' Monday night game against the Jets, Keenan Allen achieved a noteworthy milestone, becoming the 54th player in NFL history to accumulate 10,000 career receiving yards.
Allen's memorable reception occurred on a graceful 23-yard catch, where he skillfully backpedaled before making a midair snatch with his left hand. He then secured the ball with his right hand, executing a turn to his left while maintaining his position in bounds, resulting in an extraordinary catch.
Entering the game at the age of 31, Allen had accumulated 9,930 receiving yards, placing him slightly ahead of Wes Welker and just behind Eric Moulds on the all-time list. Currently, Allen is closely trailing the legendary Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, who recorded 10,060 yards in his career with the Broncos and Ravens.
As a five-time Pro Bowler, Allen is currently in his 11th season. He has been a Charger throughout his entire career and ranks second in franchise history in career receptions and receiving yards, trailing only tight end Antonio Gates. With 56 touchdown catches, Allen stands as the fourth highest in franchise history, following Gates (116), Hall of Fame wide receiver Lance Alworth (81), and Gary Garrison (58).
Allen becomes part of a select group, alongside Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Travis Kelce, and Davante Adams, as one of the few 1 receivers to have achieved the milestone of 10,000 career receiving yards.
