Lakers’ Comeback Falls Short as Rockets Prevail; Rui Hachimura Scores 13 Points

The Los Angeles Lakers faced the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center on January 6, suffering a narrow 115-119 loss. This leaves the Lakers tied for 5th place in the Western Conference with a 20-15 record.

The Lakers’ starting lineup of Austin Reaves, Max Christie, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis faced a Rockets team led by Jalen Green, who exploded for 18 points in the first quarter. The Lakers struggled offensively and defensively, trailing by as many as 22 points and entering halftime at a significant 49-67 deficit.

In the third quarter, the Lakers mounted an impressive comeback with key three-pointers from Reaves, LeBron, and Davis, narrowing the gap to just two points by the start of the fourth quarter. However, their rally faltered as the Rockets regained momentum with an early 8-0 run in the final quarter, ultimately sealing the game.

Rui Hachimura had a strong start, scoring 8 points in the first quarter, including two three-pointers and a pull-up jumper. However, his impact waned in the second half, contributing just 5 more points and finishing with 13 points on 5/9 shooting, including 3/6 from beyond the arc, and 1 rebound in 28 minutes of play.

The Lakers will look to bounce back on January 7th as they face the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center, aiming to regain momentum in the Western Conference standings.
