LeBron's Lakers Knocked Out as Nuggets' Murray Seals Late Victory: Spotlight on LeBron James' Free Agency

LeBron's Lakers Knocked Out as Nuggets' Murray Seals Late Victory: Spotlight on LeBron James' Free Agency

Is this the last game that LeBron James played for the Lakers?

After losing to the Denver Nuggets 108-106 at Ball Arena in the fifth game of their Western Conference opening-round playoff series, the Lakers' season came to an end on Monday night, and James was released from the team without restriction.

James, 39, has the option to decline his $51.4 million contract for the following campaign. LeBron has been with the Lakers for six years, during which time they have lost twice in the first round of the playoffs and made it to the postseason twice more.

Following the game, James was questioned about the possibility of him concluding his tenure with the Lakers.

James was silent for a long moment before answering. “Uhhh, I’m not gonna answer that.”

Inquired regarding deriving any confidence from the Lakers challenging the reigning champion Nuggets, James stated, “No, ‘cause we lost. … I’m not a ‘participation’ guy. We lost and you move on and see how you can get better.”  “Our season has been derailed all season with … injuries and guys in and out. I talked about it all year. … It’s hard to say who we are, what we can be ‘cause we have yet to be whole. I think we were only probably whole one or two times this year. I know one of them was during the in-season tournament, we got whole and we showed what we (are) capable of doing.

“First of all, tip your hat to them, They’re great team. Super-well coached and made the plays down the stretch to win the series. You give credit where credit is due, that’s for sure.” James said

In the 5th game Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray shot over Austin Reaves with a 14-foot jump shot with 4 seconds left, that gave us the kind of shot that players like the Lakers made during their prime days.

It's incredible that even the Lakers can still make game-six in the series, especially when in the game Anthony lost Davis earlier.

As Davis and Michael Porter Jr. collided 60 seconds in the second half, Porter Jr. was racing past Davis and the Lakers ahead of them by 6 points. Holding his left one Davis tumbled to the ground. Davis did not give up the playing, even when it obviously became a different quality of the play.

While a little after that, Davis challenged Murray’s jumper by extending his left hand left. Davis grimaced as the shot went through the mark.

So Davis would start to move in from the Lakers bench to the locker room with only two minutes and thirty seconds before the end of the third quarter. By the end of third quarter the Lakers were 81-79 behind.

Only in the fourth quarter did Davis get back to the court. Davis separately got 17 points and 15 rebounds despite his limmits. Each beginning lineup with the Lakers had at least 14 points and James's record was the most with 30. Among the players, Russell had 14 points, Hachimura 15, whereas Reaves had 19.

With about three minutes to go before the end of the third quarter, Davis, who was still with the Lakers team, was seen heading towards the locker room. The Lakers were behind with two minutes left to play, the score being 81-79. In the end, Murray was the dominating player as he scored a total of 32 points.

In the final seconds of Game 5 of their first-round playoff series, Murray made the winning 14-foot shot that sent the Denver Nuggets to the Western Conference semifinals by overcoming the Los Angeles Lakers 108 -106.

When everything was said and done, the series perfectly captured the Lakers' season: premature challenges, extra sufferings spells of bright hope and then dark gloom.

The Lakers' success in the previous season's Western Conference finals accompanied the team with the regular-season disappointment, thus their management made up for the core of their group. But in this particular season, there were no such unexpected comebacks to compensate for their faults.

This season of James is his 21st in the NBA, including the 20th consecutive All-Star Game. Along with four MVP awards in the regular season and four NBA Finals, he has won four NBA titles.
