The New York Liberty are back in the WNBA Finals, which is an entertaining event in women basketball that has only a championship missing in its history. But the Minnesota Lynx, a team that has been playing for several seasons and boasts of victories are before them. The Liberty needs to beat their arch rivals if they are to clinch the title.

The Liberty happened to eliminate the Las Vegas Aces, the two time defending champions, in the semifinals this year and are back in the finals. They have reached the championship five times, but have crossed that line they have felt the pain every time they went there. The defending champion Lynx, however, have returned to the finals for the first time since 2017 when they won this final of their four crowns in a mesmerizing highly seven-year span. But it wasn’t easy for Minnesota. Despite struggling through five challenging games, they toppled Connecticut to a highly entertaining winners- and- only- get- one-more- shot match on Tuesday night.

No time is available to consider changes as the Lynx prepare for the Liberty as the Game 1 of the best-of-five WNBA Finals scheduled for Thursday night. The chances are much higher now and the time available to do that is limited.

These two behemoths get it on for the championship when Minnesota triumphed in the Commissioner’s Cup in June of this year. That victory marked the start of their season but the Liberty is eager for a different taste this time around. Las Vegas Aces knocked them out in the last year’s finals, and New York is ready for victory and become the first champion.

“Talk about the schedule, who cares. Nobody’s going to feel bad for us,” Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve said. “Got to go hooping right away and we’ll do that.”

In fact, the Liberty are even hungrier for a championship than they were in previous years when they made the Finals. A tough team, the Houston Comets, denied them an opportunity to proceed to the championship series in the first four seasons that the league was formed. They lost again after a span of less than two years to the Los Angeles Sparks, after the frustrating losses. New York is determined to influence the direction of events, to grow out of their previous loathsome memories and try to put an end to their long titleless championship streak, though those painful feelings are still lingering.

“This was a tough series, an emotional series, for a number of different reasons just the feeling of not satisfied.” said Breanna Stewart, “We haven’t done anything yet,”

“We went to the Finals last year,and we didn’t do nothing.”

While the Minnesota Lynx lost just once to the Liberty in three regular season matches and triumphed in the Commissioner’s Cup earlier in the year, they are not going to be intimidated by New York. Going into the Finals, the Lynx have a lot of confidence particularly because they come into the series with a high level of win rate and certainly they have a home-team advantage playing at New York.

Minnesota is just three wins shy of creating a WNBA record. They will be the only club to pull a five titles victory, that is besides the Houston Comets and Seattle Storm of women basketball league that has been rated among the most excellent leagues. The first two games, of the series are played in New York while the third and fourth games if the teams reach there are played in Minnesota. A potential problem, however, might occur on Friday October 18 when game four will be held because the Minnesota Timberwolves will also be featuring in a tune up match against the Denver Nuggets. This could result to emergence of conflict on the site and make the series even more complicated.
