Liverpool defeated AC Milan 3-1 to start their UEFA Champions League campaign after overcoming an early deficit.
At San Siro the Reds got off to a poor start, still smarting from the painful Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest. A series of decisive moments in terms of saves that Maignan pulled off one of which was quite a brave one on Diogo Jota that put an end to his night. But he remained steadfast in the 41st minute when he punched away a shot from Salah which was easy picking for Van Dijk to head in with no pressure from a free header.
Luis Diaz was not chosen, but Cody Gakpo offered a better attacking threat from the left flank. The third goal was thus due to his brilliant run that was in the middle of the second period of the game. Szoboszlai sealed the game and made a volley to match Gakpo’s equalizer after some intense fencing.
The Dutchman had a special beginning and after that, he was able to kick the foul that led to the equalizing goal. Shortly after that, he once again showcased creativity and skill by squirming through the defenders before laying it off for Szoboszlai for the third goal. His play was confident and forceful He was looking out for every opportunity to make his move forward. It was nice shuffling through the memory of this fellow who performed well in the last season and who also carried that form all through the fantastic Euros exercise with the Netherlands until he was on the field.
