In the Canadian Open, part of the Grand Slam of Curling, Japan’s women’s curling team, Loco Solare, claimed an impressive 8-2 victory over Korea’s Team Kim Eun-ji. This win brings them closer to reaching the tournament’s playoffs.
Loco Solare started strong and quickly took control. In the second end, they scored two points with a skillful shot that removed an opposing stone. By the third and fourth ends, Loco Solare had added more points to their lead, ending the first half of the match ahead at 5-1.
In the second half, Korea managed to score one more point. But in the sixth end, Loco Solare’s skip, Satsuki Fujisawa, delivered a fantastic shot that knocked out two of Korea’s stones while keeping three of their own in play, earning Loco Solare three additional points. Korea conceded after that, giving Loco Solare the win.
After the game, third player Chinami Yoshida praised the team’s performance, saying, “We were consistent overall, which was great.” She also shared her focus on mental preparation, explaining, “In real games, only about 70% of shots work as they do in practice, so I aim to perform at 120%.”
With two wins in the qualifiers, Loco Solare is close to the playoffs. Their next game will be a matchup against another Japanese team, Chubu Electric Power, which is set to take place on November 8 (JST).
