Magic Johnson Fires Back at Anthony Edwards' Critique of 80s and 90s NBA Stars

Magic Johnson Fires Back at Anthony Edwards' Critique of 80s and 90s NBA Stars

The most popular young player of the present NBA roster is a player of the Minnesota Timberwolves, whose first name is Anthony Edwards. He is known to average about 25-30 points per night as well as effectively defend against other great wing players as well.

When it comes to arrogance, Edwards is undoubtedly one of the most arrogant players in the league. In the last one to two years or even earlier he has been very blunt and has said that he wants to be the number one player in NBA. He has stated himself as Team USA’s chief scorer as the summer Olympics approach, thus making his arrogance and desire apparent.

The league boasts of Edwards as one of its most arrogant players. In the next two to three years, he has declared that he wants to be the best NBA player. Certainly, he has gained the position of being the primary attacking threat for Team USA, as the summer Olympics near, perfectly showcasing his egotistical arrogance and high aims.

Only several days prior, Edwards caused controversy with his statement that only Michael Jordan possessed talent in the 1990s.

“I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it,” Edwards said. “They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. [Michael Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe , they were like, 'Oh, my God.' But now everybody has skill.”

The young upstart could have hardly expected this, and the legendary Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers was not anyone to cross, so he retorted with some rather biting words about the young 23-year-old.

"I never respond to a guy who's never won a championship... He didn't win a college championship, I don't even know if he won a high school championship."

Edwards’ comment seems a little bit exaggerated, but it is right to admit that today’s players, especially guards and forwards are more talented than their counterparts from several years ago. Such assertions can be easily set straight by Magic Johnson. The man dominated the NBA in the 1980s and 1990s, and his influence could still be seen today.

There is also a social media trend that is going around which involves these types of stereotypical statements in a comical manner. We are through with the 90s There is clearly much more to Edwards and his theories but Johnson shows good reason to be wary of such generalized statements coming from someone who has such an intimate connection with basketball. "We're done with the '90s"

It seems that Anthony Edwards required a short lecture about the history of the formation of the NBA. undefined

"We've Moved Past the '90s"is that it is a social media trend that suggests that the decade was not as good as some people may have thought. There were most likely talented players in the league at the time, but the games as a whole were significantly less entertaining than they are today in terms of both the players’ skills and their teams’ abilities.
