Ohtani's Historic Pursuit: Can He Still Achieve the Unthinkable 60 Home Runs and 60 Steals This Season?

Ohtani's Historic Pursuit: Can He Still Achieve the Unthinkable 60 Home Runs and 60 Steals This Season?

The sensational LA Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani made history on Thursday night as on this night he went for six in six where he hit three homeruns, had a total of ten RBIs, or rather he scored ten runs, and yet he also managed to steal two bases. With this great feat he realized his stand becoming the first player ever to complete 50/50 season.

Ohtani also came through once more with some eye-catching performances, as sweet as a cherry; 3 for 4, home run, 2 RBI, and yet another stolen base. This further substantiated his myth when he hit more than Rickey Henderson record of 13 home runs and bases stolen in a single game making it the first baseball player to achieve this twice fourteen times.

Considering all of this history being made, can Shohei Ohtani, who is currently 52-52, do even more?

As to the question whether Ohtani should attempt 60-60 with eight games left before the playoffs, he says, yes.

Ohtani genuinely stepped up, although speaking about eight HRs and eight SB in only eight games does not sound convincing.

Since September 13 he has scored five home runs and stolen four bases. He has six home runs and five stolen bases if nine games are factored in. Without any doubt he is currently ahead during this particular phase.

It may look implausible that 60-60 is achievable for Ohtani still it is feasible. He has just experienced most of his eight game streaks this season where he has scored at least five home runs or has stolen at least five bases. If he continues that way he might very well place himself in a position to achieve that magical 60-60 mark before the final game of the regular season.

A few other outstanding seasons were required for him to achieve this fantastic feat, but perhaps he can pull off the impossible.

The Dodgers and Ohtani have the following eight matchups left as they push through the last few games of the 2024 regular season:

⚫ Sept. 25: vs. San Diego Padres

⚫ Sept. 26: vs. San Diego Padres

     ⚫ Sept. 27: @Colorado Rockies

     ⚫ Sept. 28: @Colorado Rockies

     ⚫ Sept. 29: @Colorado Rockies

Now that this will be Ohtani’s first time experiencing postseason baseball in the United States at all, it is a tremendous feat that his Dodgers have clinched a position inside the 2024 postseason.

However, the path to a spectacular regular season in 2024 has been filled with many obstacles for Ohtani. Because of operation on his elbow, the versed sportman, who can both heel and pitch, has been on the disabled list throughout the season. He had six emotional seasons with the Los Angeles Angels before having a new team off the field to adjust too. Making things even more complicated in his fantastic year was the impact of his longtime friend and interpreter Ippei Mizuhara who claimed that he stole approximately $17 million from Ohtani.
