On Thursday, the Red Sox made the announcement that they had terminated the contract of Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom, who had been with the team for four years. Additionally, it was revealed that General Manager Brian O'Halloran was offered an alternative role within the organization; however, he will temporarily assume the responsibilities of Bloom.
Boston brought Bloom on board after the 2019 season, which was just a year following their 2018 World Series victory. During Bloom's tenure over the past three years, the Red Sox made the playoffs once but found themselves in last place twice. Presently, this year, the Red Sox share the bottom spot in the AL East with the Yankees.
Owner John Henry stated, “Our organization has significant expectations on the field and while Chaim’s efforts in revitalizing our baseball infrastructure have helped set the stage for the future, we will today begin a search for new leadership.”
Although they have clinched two World Series titles in the past ten years, the Red Sox will soon have their fifth front office leadership change since 2011 once they bring in Bloom's successor.
