After a groundbreaking year that included his first World Series title, Shohei Ohtani is determined to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to back-to-back championships in 2025. Acknowledging the challenge, the three-time MLB MVP emphasized the difficulty and rarity of the feat, last accomplished by the New York Yankees in 2000.

“One team wins the World Series every year, but only a limited number of teams have done it back-to-back,” Ohtani said in a recent online interview. “That’s what I want to do most.”

Ohtani’s 2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary. The two-way superstar made MLB history by becoming the first player to join the 50-50 club, finishing the season with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases. Despite being limited to a designated hitter role while recovering from elbow surgery, Ohtani also posted career highs in batting average (.310) and RBI (130), solidifying his status as one of the most dominant players in baseball history.

While focusing on returning to the mound in 2025, Ohtani admitted he is beginning to reflect on his future. “I’m getting to the age where I have to think about things I don’t want to think about,” said Ohtani, who will turn 31 in July. “As I train on a daily basis, I’ll have to think a bit about the future where my performance will start to decline.”

Off the field, Ohtani continues to make an impact. Recently, he announced that he and his wife, Mamiko, are expecting their first child. Additionally, Ohtani has contributed to growing baseball’s reach by donating thousands of baseball gloves to elementary schools in Japan, inspiring the next generation of players.

“I can contribute to society in a variety of ways,” Ohtani said. “But I think the most important thing is to concentrate on what I do on the field while I’m active.”
