Shohei Ohtani’s Walk-Off Homer Lifts Dodgers to 8-0 Start

Shohei Ohtani’s Walk-Off Homer Lifts Dodgers to 8-0 Start

Shohei Ohtani sent Dodger Stadium into a frenzy with a walk-off home run in the ninth inning, securing a 6-5 comeback victory over the Atlanta Braves. With their second walk-off win of the season, the Dodgers extended their perfect start to 8-0, maintaining their lead atop the NL West.

Ohtani, who finished the game 3-for-5, continued his impressive streak by reaching base and scoring in all eight games this season.

The game didn’t start in typical Dodgers fashion. In the first inning, a costly error by Max Muncy allowed Atlanta to score two quick runs. The second inning saw another Muncy miscue, which contributed to a three-run Braves rally. Starting pitcher Blake Snell struggled with command and grew visibly frustrated with the strike zone, even engaging in a brief dispute with the umpire.

By the end of the second, the Dodgers found themselves in a 5-0 hole—matching their worst deficit of the young season.

Despite early struggles, the Dodgers’ offense slowly chipped away. In the second inning, Tommy Edman launched a two-run homer, followed by a solo shot from Michael Conforto to cut the deficit to 5-3.

The fifth inning saw another golden opportunity when Ohtani lined a single to right, advancing Miguel Vargas to third. However, an unfortunate double play on Mookie Betts’ lineout killed the rally.

More baserunning missteps in the sixth prevented the Dodgers from closing the gap, but the home team refused to go down quietly.

Down to their final six outs, the Dodgers found life in the eighth inning. Muncy, who had struggled defensively earlier in the game, delivered redemption with a clutch two-run double to deep right-center, tying the game 5-5. Dodger Stadium erupted as momentum swung in Los Angeles’ favor.

Then, in the bottom of the ninth, with one out, Ohtani stepped up against former Angels closer Raisel Iglesias. He wasted no time, crushing a high fastball to dead center for a walk-off home run. The crowd roared as Ohtani rounded the bases, doused in a celebratory water shower at home plate.

Despite being the hero of the night, Ohtani credited his teammates for the victory.

“Our bullpen kept us in the game, and Muncy’s clutch hit gave us the chance to win,” Ohtani said postgame. “I just wanted to make solid contact and help the team however I could.”

Adding to the moment, the dramatic home run came on Ohtani’s MVP Bobblehead Night, making it a storybook ending for the Dodgers’ newest superstar.

The Dodgers will look to continue their perfect start as they face the Braves again today.
