Thunder Dominate Game 5 Behind Jalen Williams’ 40-Point Explosion, Take 3–2 Lead Over Pacers

The Oklahoma City Thunder took a commanding 3–2 lead in the best-of-seven series after dominating Game 5 and defeating the Indiana Pacers 120–109.

By shooting 14 of 25 from the field and 9 of 12 from the arc, Jalen Williams detonated for a playoff career-high 40 points, bringing Oklahoma City one step closer to its first NBA championship. MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his incredible Finals play with 31 points, 10 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals.

The Pacers' spirit was crushed by the Thunder's stifling defense, which caused 23 turnovers and converted them into 32 points, including an 18–4 surge in the fourth quarter.

The 14 three-pointers Oklahoma City made were a stark contrast to their performance in Game 4.

Tyrese Haliburton had a difficult game for Indiana. He finished with just four points (all free throws), seven rebounds, and six assists while playing on a surgically tender right calf (formerly ankle). He missed all six of his field-goal attempts.

Stephen A. Smith of ESPN referred to it as one of the worst shooting nights in Finals history, pointing out that it was the first time since 1958 when a player played more than 30 minutes without recording any blocks, steals, or field goals.

Indiana's top scorer, Pascal Siakam, scored 28 points, while T.J. Off the bench, McConnell made 18 points, particularly in the third quarter. Despite combining a fierce offensive surge with defensive pressure, the Pacers were unable to maintain it in the final minutes.

The Thunder surged, drowning out any attempts by the Indiana team to rally as the Paycom Center crowd buzzed. OKC's victory tonight provides them a significant advantage because, historically, teams that lead 3–2 in the Finals win 82% of the time.

The Pacers will be eliminated in Game 6 on Thursday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. To force a Game 7, Indiana will require tighter ball control and a Haliburton at full strength.
