A potential boxing rematch between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury might pave the way for an intriguing showdown within the confines of an MMA cage
Nakisa Bidarian, who is both a business partner to Jake Paul and the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, shared with ESPN that a formal offer has been presented for a potential rematch between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury in the sport of boxing. The terms of the offer include a unique clause stating that if Jake Paul secures a victory in the proposed boxing rematch, there is a subsequent arrangement for a third bout. However, this third encounter would transition into the realm of mixed martial arts (MMA), specifically under the banner of the Professional Fighters League (PFL). In essence, the offer sets the stage for a two-fight deal, with the potential for the rivalry to unfold in both the boxing and MMA arenas.
According to Donn Davis, the chairman of the Professional Fighters League (PFL), Tommy Fury is poised to earn a substantial sum ranging from $15 million to $20 million for participating in both proposed fights, a figure significantly surpassing what he could potentially earn from any other match, representing a lucrative opportunity.
"Jake has said to Tommy he's willing to fight him in boxing, and if Jake wins, he's willing to enter the SmartCage in PFL with Tommy and again give him another payday close to eight figures to do that," Bidarian said. "So, there's a path there where it's worth close to $20 million of guaranteed money to reengage in the Jake Paul competition, effectively."
Jake Paul, the former YouTuber who has successfully ventured into professional prizefighting, faced his sole defeat in the boxing arena against Fury in February 2023, losing via a split decision. Meanwhile, Fury, renowned as the younger half-brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, continued his winning streak by securing a unanimous decision over KSI, another YouTuber-turned-boxer, in October. Originating from the United Kingdom, Fury garnered substantial recognition, particularly following his appearance on a reality show.
At the age of 27, Jake Paul achieved victory over UFC legend Nate Diaz in a boxing match last August. Subsequently, Paul redirected his boxing trajectory, opting to face less established opponents to accumulate valuable experience, with the ultimate goal of vying for a championship in the future. This strategic approach aligns with a more conventional route for someone at his level of expertise. Paul currently holds a boxing record of 8-1, with five of those victories secured through knockouts.
"We all know everyone tries to price themselves out if they don't really want to fight and hide behind that," Paul said of Fury. "So, I think that's where things are. But regardless, I'm on a different mission to become world champion, and all doors for Tommy lead to me. I can do whatever I want, which is the beauty -- and what I want is to be world champion. And that's my path."
Having triumphed with a first-round knockout against Andre August in December, Jake Paul is gearing up for his next challenge. On March 2, he will step into the ring as the co-main event on the Amanda Serrano vs. Nina Meinke card in Puerto Rico, facing off against the formidable former Golden Gloves champion Ryan Bourland.
