Toyota Returns to Formula 1 After 15-Year Hiatus, Partners with Haas

TOKYO, Japan (AFP) — Motor giant Toyota announced that it is returning to Formula One racing after a break of fifteen years. This return is marked by a new technical cooperation with the US based Haas team.

Toyota competed for eight seasons before it stopped racing at the end of 2009. during the period, the team managed three consecutive podiums thirteen times but failed to clinch a Grand Prix victory. Paying the bill, the Japanese company is ready to get back to Formula One racetrack.

The need to dramatically improve the team’s performance on the grid saw Haas, currently placed seventh in the 10-team constructors’ standings announce that he will be receiving design, technical and manufacturing expertise from Toyota. This cooperation might pull their competitive future in a new direction.

Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda said that he “had finally gotten back to being an ordinary older guy who loves cars.”

“I think that, somewhere deep in his heart, that ordinary older car-loving guy Akio Toyoda had always regretted having blocked — by pulling out of F1 — Japanese youths’ path toward driving the world’s fastest cars,” he said.

The line-up released the news that the particular race of the United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas at a later date this month, is likely to be the first time when the Toyota logo will be visible on the cars, thus marking the first evident sign of their new worldwide partnership.

Haas team, Ayao Komatsu, express his feelings regarding the signing agreement and said that he was ‘‘hugely excited” with Toyota and felt that it would significantly enhance the sample’s future.

Haas has also bolster their driver lineup besides adopting technology by signing France’s Esteban Ocon for a multi-year drivers. In the subsequent season, Ocon will have as his team-mate the 19-years young British driver Oliver Bearman who is widely expected to be a real up-and-comer. Altogether, they are going to build a very energetic, really young pair. As such, it is expected that having a combination of potential and experience will revitalize the team’s spirit to be winners.

Toyota's entry back into Formula One represents a major milestone for the business and the league overall.
