Yoshinobu Yamamoto limited the New York Yankees to just one hit over 6.1 innings, propelling the Dodgers to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven World Series. The game, held at Dodger Stadium on October 26 (October 27 Japan Time), saw Yamamoto strike out four batters and walk two, with his only blemish coming from Juan Soto's solo home run in the third inning.
The Dodgers' offense provided ample support, highlighted by home runs from Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernandez, and Freddie Freeman. Edman opened the scoring with a solo shot in the second inning, while Hernandez and Freeman followed with back-to-back homers later in the third.
“I was able to stay calm and collected,” Yamamoto said after the game. “I threw with everything I had from the first inning. I think the cheers from everyone in the crowd made me perform better than I would have otherwise.”
However, the excitement was tempered by an injury to superstar Shohei Ohtani. After drawing a walk in the seventh inning, Ohtani attempted to steal second base but appeared to injure his left shoulder while sliding. He was visibly in pain and was assisted off the field by team staff.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later confirmed that Ohtani had suffered a "shoulder subluxation," although early tests showed promising results. “The strength was great, range of motion good. Once we get the scans, we’ll know more,” Roberts stated.
Ohtani, a leading contender for the National League MVP, had struggled in the series, going 0-for-3 in the game and 1-for-8 overall. He has recorded three home runs and ten RBIs in his first postseason.
