The New York Yankees are reportedly targeting Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux as they seek to strengthen their lineup following the departure of second baseman Gleyber Torres, who signed with the Detroit Tigers in free agency. According to Baseball Writers’ Association of America reporter Pat Ragazzo, the Yankees are keen on Lux, a versatile player who has been a key contributor to the Dodgers’ success.
Lux, 27, was drafted 20th overall by the Dodgers in 2016 and made his MLB debut in 2019. He played a career-high 139 games last season, primarily at second base, contributing to the Dodgers’ World Series victory with a .251 batting average, 10 home runs, and 50 RBIs.
The Dodgers recently signed Korean infielder Kim Hye-seong to a three-year, $12.5 million deal, adding depth to their infield and potentially making Lux available for trade. Meanwhile, the Yankees are reshuffling their roster, with Jazz Chisholm Jr. slated to move to his natural position at second base. However, acquiring Lux could provide a more permanent solution to the team’s middle infield needs.
The Mariners have also shown interest in Lux, reportedly being more proactive in trade discussions. For the Yankees, securing Lux could fill a critical gap left by Torres, who tallied 138 career home runs before leaving New York.
While discussions are still preliminary, Ragazzo noted that “one trade with the Dodgers could help fill in some gaps” for the Yankees as they look to contend in the upcoming season.
