Fourth Grade Skateboarder Ema Kawakami Breaks Three Guinness World Records

Fourth Grade Skateboarder Ema Kawakami Breaks Three Guinness World Records

Despite being only in fourth grade, Japanese skateboarding prodigy Ema Kawakami has already made a monumental mark in the world of extreme sports, securing three Guinness World Records in the process. These records were officially recognized in the Guinness World Records 2025 edition.

Kawakami, who competes in the “vertical” event, where skaters perform tricks on a half-pipe, has stunned the skateboarding community with his incredible feats. In January 2024, he tied for first place in the “JSF Vertical Series 2023,” despite being the youngest competitor. His performance at the “Tony Hawk Vert Alert” in Salt Lake City, Utah, in June was even more extraordinary. He completed the difficult “900” trick (two and a half rotations) three times in a row, earning millions of views on Instagram and drawing global attention to her talent.

The following three were recognized by the Guinness World Records this time.

1. Most backside 540 skateboard tricks in one minute

2. Most consecutive skateboard '900' in competition (male)

3. Youngest X Games athlete (male)

When reflecting on his recent achievements, Kawakami shared, “The Guinness World Records book is in the school library, so I’m very happy to think that I’ll be in it, and I want my friends to see it. This year was great because my dreams of going to America and competing in the X Games came true. I also got to go to Italy and Canada, and it was great to skate with famous skaters. I’ll work hard so I can go overseas again next year, and above all, I want to get better at skateboarding.”
