Francis Ngannou did not take long. He grounded Renan Ferreira in less than a minute, and the Brazilian quickly lost consciousness.
This was perhaps Ngannou’s most anticipated return to the MMA and he demonstrated why he is among the best heavyweight fighters. In the main event of PFL: The split event known as Battle of the Giants occurred at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Gane, a former UFC heavyweight titleholder, triumphed over Ferreira, the 2023 PFL heavyweight champion through first-round K.O. This was the first fight in the cage for Ngannou since the bout in January 2022 and he was as hungry as ever to prove himself.
It was Francis Ngannou’s emotional win. He lost his 15-month-old kid in April due to a rare ailment which is very fatal. This sad incident occurred within 50 days after Ngannou was knocked down brutally by Anthony Joshua. However, he proudly came back to the top of the sport he dominated on Saturday night.
Preliminary head kicks were thrown and then, the action was set completely by Ngannou. He was able to perform an early takedown while avoiding Ferreira’s triangle submission attempt. As soon as Ngannou took the upper hand, he pummeled Ferreira mercilessly until referee Dan Miragliotta was forced to step in and end the fight at 3:32 of the first round. Not only had Ngannou triumphed, but he also delivered an emphatic victory through which he reclaimed his throne and the power he once had, having dispelled the sorrow and hardship that haunted him.
"I can't just think about anything than my son Kobe, I only took this fight because of him," Ngannou said post-fight through tears.
"I knew I didn't miss a step. I wasn't worried about it, because as soon as I walked in the gym for MMA, I knew that everything was still there. It was just about me being able to manage my emotions."
Ngannou gave a very fantastic return to the mixed martial arts After giving this sensational return to MMA. The 38-year-old fighter from Cameroon had not fought in an MMA bout since January 2020 when he left the UFC over the contract issues to try his luck in boxing. However, the heavyweight titan made his PFL debut on Saturday, and he came out firing.
Ngannou brought his record up to 18-3 by getting the W via a demonstration of his dominance. This one was his tenth first-round knockout victory out of his great career. After the bout, Ngannou remained in the cage, and it seemed that he is too emotional to talk at that moment. Of course this was no ordinary victory. Such as when he finally revealed the actual reason as to why he came back into the ring, I remembered when fighting for his son.
“I don’t know,’’ he said when asked how it felt. “I just can’t think about anything. That my son Kobe, you know… Without Kobe, we wouldn't be here tonight. I hope they can remember his name."
