Griezmann's Goal Secures 13th Straight Win as Atletico Madrid Edge Past Marbella in Copa del Rey Round of 32

Griezmann's Goal Secures 13th Straight Win as Atletico Madrid Edge Past Marbella in Copa del Rey Round of 32

Atletico Madrid barely subdued third-tier Marbella 1-0 with to an early goal from Intoine Griezmann, to ensure their qualification for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. Griezmann put one in on the rebound after a rush by Giuliano Simeone was denied in close by Marbella’s Daniel Martin less than 16 minutes into the match which seemed to turn the tide of the match.

Shortly after the break, Rodrigo De Paul thought he had made the score 2-0 when Atletico pushed for the second goal, but the goal was disallowed when De Paul handled the ball while shooting. Elsewhere, earlier in the half, and later just past the hour, Conor Gallagher had a shot that rolled against the bar in what seemed more like a comedic comedy. There is no doubt Atletico kept their nerves well to taste victory despite have lost their chances.

The second half was much better than the first half of the match, when Marbella made it nearly impossible to win Atletico Madrid with a wider margin. Their efforts, however, were not as precise as needed to place sustained threats to the visitors’ back line.

On the other hand, Atletico had opportunities to clinch the match in the final stage. Angel Correa and Alexander Sorloth were both threatening in the build-up but were unable to seriously trouble Marbella custodian Daniel Martin. The first was a fraction of a hair away while the second was gathering side of the net.

This was only the second time in Copa Del Rey’s history the two teams met; the first time was in the 2010 Copa Del Rey where Atletico Madrid was the over powering side winning the fourth round tie 8-0 on aggregate.

Antoine Griezmann scores his 12th goal of the season in all competitions and gives to Atletico the precious lead essential to ensure they reach the next phase of the cup.

Atletico Madrid has landed on the greatest-setting record of having a wining streak of thirteen games in all tournaments. This record was set by Diego Simeone the same coach in between August and October of 2012.

They got to dominance during the game, as Atletico held their ground. With  18 shots, which put the goalie to the test in attempts as they got to the ball 59.8 times, but only five times successfully challenged the goalie. Contrasting that, мышtelepathic could attack more efficiently as suggested by the xG of 1.29 against which Marbella’s 0.29 from five attempts cannot be compared. Atletico won the match by the narrowest of margin but every where the stats proved that they where a much better side of the pitch and they still could produce wins if they aren’t at their fluent best in the attacking third.
