The current cross-country world champion Kiplimo rose to the occasion against a myriad of competitors who included his half brother Victor Kiplangat, the current world marathon champion. The victory of Kiplimo was the third consecutive success in which Uganda has produced the champion of this remarkable race, which was a record for the country at the race.

Kiplimo did not waste time showcasing that he was a force to reckon with and immediately surge forward to his rivals leaving them behind. By the 10 km he was two minutes ahead of the rest of the competitors. In 43:19, Netherlands, Mike Foppen- 43:22, UK’s Marc Scott -43:21.

Kiplimo is not even 24 years old, yet he is developing quite a career. By winning the Seven Hills Race in 2023 in 41:05 he matched the previous record by the current global cross country champion, fellow Ugandan Cheptegei Joshua.

It's important to remember Kiplimo's incredible performance in Lisbon in 2021, where he broke the 15K mark in an incredible 40:27 during his world record-setting half marathon race of 57:32, but 40:42 Sunday is the fastest anyone has ever run in a stand-alone 15K race. They establish him as one of the all-time great distance runners while at the same time giving evidence of unabated commitment to excellence.
