Lando Norris Triumphs in Thrilling Singapore GP, Overcoming Wall Crashes to Narrow Verstappen's Championship Lead!

Lando Norris Triumphs in Thrilling Singapore GP, Overcoming Wall Crashes to Narrow Verstappen's Championship Lead!

In the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, the British racer Lando Norris claimed the win which has resulted in reducing the gap of the drivers world championship lead held by Max Verstappen.

In Azerbaijan the week before, he had partnered with Oscar Piastri to secure victory for McLaren, and this time around they had an equally impressive show. Piastri did also very well, finishing third on the Singapore GP.

It was his third win of the season, which saw him cut Verstappen’s lead to 52 points after the Dutch driver finished second in the race.

McLaren improved their standing in the constructors' standings considerably with their outstanding performance at the Singapore Grand Prix. At the top of the constructors' rankings, the team's lead over Red Bull grew as Norris sealed the victory and Piastri took the podium.

Their outstanding top-three finishes added up to 40 points, extending the team’s lead over Red Bull by 41 points. This win increases the British team’s chances at their first championship since 1998 and increases their chances of being hopeful as the season continues.

“It was an amazing race,” Norris told Sky Sports after the race. “A few too many close calls. It was well controlled otherwise. Fun.

“Sometimes it is not that you are pushing too much but that you are chilling too much. Good day for the team.”

As they say, Red Bull is still the defending champion even if they clinched the championship in the past two prior seasons.

Mercedes AMG, driven by the British racer, started with a lead of 0.203 second over Verstappen in qualifying and had a remarkable launch. Verstappen, on the other hand, thought it prudent not to challenge Norris anymore and instead went after the third-place finisher Hamilton, a move which to a 13.5 second lead on lap 19.

Norris drove a fantastic race, at one point leading the race while also breaking lap records several times. Imperative to his COMPLETE control of the circuit, he overtook all but six of the rivals and crossed the finishing line twenty plus seconds ahead of Verstappen.
