The New York Mets have punched their ticket to the National League Championship Series for the first time in nine years, defeating the division-winning Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 4 of the Division Series on October 8 at Citi Field. The Phillies took an early lead, scoring one run in the fourth inning, while the Mets’ offense struggled to break through. But in the sixth inning, Francisco Lindor changed everything. With the bases loaded and one out, Lindor smashed a 2-1 fastball deep into the right-center field seats for a game-winning grand slam, turning the game around and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Mets pitcher Kodai Senga, who has been recovering from injuries, showed his readiness for the upcoming League Championship Series. Scheduled to start in Game 5, Senga practiced in the bullpen before the game, throwing more than 50 pitches, including curveballs, as he continued his rehabilitation. Senga had previously started Game 1 of the series, pitching two innings and giving up one run.

The Mets, who entered the playoffs via the third wild card slot, have been on a roll. After eliminating the Central Division-winning Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series, they now took down the Phillies, the top team in the Eastern Division. The next challenge awaits in the Championship Series, where they will face either the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers, featuring Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, or the San Diego Padres, with Japanese aces Yu Darvish and Yuki Matsui.
