Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout has revealed his intention to play in the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC). The 33-year-old outfielder made the announcement on April 15 (April 16 Japan time), ahead of the Angels’ game against the Texas Rangers, with MLB.com reporting his comments.
Trout, who served as the captain for Team USA in the 2023 WBC, shared his enthusiasm for another chance to compete on the international stage. "I really want to play and I hope that happens," he said. "There’s a lot of unfinished business for me." In the 2023 WBC final, Trout struck out against Shohei Ohtani, ending the game and leaving a bittersweet memory of what was a thrilling matchup between the U.S. and Japan.
The 2023 WBC left a lasting impact on Trout, both personally and professionally. He reflected on the excitement that the tournament brought to the baseball world, as well as the support he received from fellow players. "It was amazing how many players reached out to me and the team," he continued. "I think a lot of guys are already looking forward to the 2026 tournament."
Following the announcement, the New York Yankees' Aaron Judge was named the captain for Team USA for the 2026 event, a role Trout held in the previous tournament. The highly anticipated WBC is set to bring together baseball's elite from around the globe next March, with Trout aiming to make up for the heartbreak of the previous final.
