Two-time middleweight champion Israel Adesanya earned his third successive UFC defeat after his opponent defeated him in a brutal fight despite his inability to alter his speed. This brutal stoppage loss extended his prolonged difficult period in the cage until it reached his third consecutive defeat which led others to question whether he could return to fighting at the top level.
The UFC Fight Night got its headliner when Nassourdine Imavov beat Israel Adesanya by earning an unexpected win during the bout. During the stand-up exchanges between fighters Imavov demonstrated superior fighting skills that nearly left Adesanya unable to see his opponent. Guilherme Imavov broke Adesanya's comeback bid in their bout because the Brazilian fighter crushed any hopes of winning back the weight division previously controlled by the champion after Du Plessis and Strickland defeated him.
His quick circular leg strikes easily connected to the body while his short but powerful jabs prevented his adversary from advancing which made him highly successful according to the judges. The fighter moved forward with controlled speed as he struck his targets smoothly while maintaining purposeful movement.
During the middle stretch of the round Adesanya became difficult to pin down before landing a perfect right cross followed by a low kick which made Imavov redirect his strategy. The precise right straight landed by his French competitor just before the bell sounded as Adesanya seemed to get back into control of the fight. The experienced fighter reacted to the present situation by smoothly separating himself from unfolding dangers through careful foot movements as the round reached its end.
The second round marked the rising French fighter's improvement whereas he closed in on Adesanya and disrupted his desired punching distance. The French fighter moved the fighting zone into his domain pushing Adesanya into tight spots while preventing his opponent from finding comfortable positions.
Inside Adesanya's fighting area Imavov navigated both fast and intelligently close enough to hit his target perfectly with tight hooks and fast uppercuts. During the opening thirty seconds Imavov seized his perfect opportunity to deliver a right-handed punch that knocked Adesanya to the ground.
Imavov moved with speed to take advantage of his chance at the first second since the opening bell. Adesanya's head became restrained backward by his massive left uppercut as Imavov kept pushing him deeper into danger with constant ground-and-pound strikes. The referee moved forward to officially confirm Imavov's win every time his precise accurate attacks landed on his opponent.
“I proved I was the better striker. Now the real bonus for me is going to be to fight for the belt. I promised you a special surprise tonight. That was the surprise,” said Imavov after the huge win.
Straight from his victory statement Imavov immediately declared his intention to fight for the title against the UFC 312 champion who would emerge victorious between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis. After emerging victorious Imavov felt ready to rise through the rankings of top fighters within his division because his performance sought recognition.
Will Imavov finally get his first shot at UFC gold, or will the middleweight division's constant change bring about an unexpected turn of events?
