In a shocking turn of events, the Japanese team, coached by the experienced Robbie Deans, delivered a resounding 38-14 victory over last year's Super Rugby finalists in the second Cross Border contest, taking a commanding 14-0 lead at halftime.

Chairman Genichi Tamatsuka of Japan Rugby League One envisions the series as a precursor to a more structured competition between the two leagues down the line.

 

The Cross-Border Rugby, an outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding inked between the Japan Rugby Football Union and New Zealand Rugby in the previous year, commenced with the Blues securing a dominant 43-7 victory against Tokyo Sungoliath at Tokyo's Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

 

The victory for the Blues in The Cross-Border Rugby series had a downside, as their captain, Patrick Tuipulotu, sustained a broken jaw, potentially affecting his participation in the upcoming Super Rugby season. The team is set to face Yokohama Canon Eagles on Saturday to conclude their series schedule at Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium.
