Saudi Arabia Showdown: Eyes Hosting Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Rematch for Epic Middle East Finale

Saudi Arabia Showdown: Eyes Hosting Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Rematch for Epic Middle East Finale

In an unexpected development, Saudi Arabia has shown a strong desire to host the highly anticipated rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, as reported by WBN. The initial intentions for a second bout, often referred to as "MayPac II," were disclosed by WBN back in 2020. Unfortunately, the plans were disrupted by the global COVID-19 pandemic, preventing the fight from materializing in the Middle East. As a result, the bout was temporarily shelved while Manny Pacquiao continued to pursue his professional career.

After Manny Pacquiao's defeat to Yordenis Ugas and his subsequent retirement, both boxing legends, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, 1ly sought exhibition opportunities to sustain their financial interests. Realizing the substantial financial prospects associated with a rematch, Mayweather and Pacquiao engaged with RIZIN, a Japanese combat sports organization, to investigate the feasibility of organizing a special event on New Year's Eve in 2024. The collaboration aimed to create a noteworthy spectacle that would capture the attention of fans and potentially bring the two legendary fighters back into the ring for an exhibition match.

Taking the lead in revealing the details, Manny Pacquiao disclosed discussions about the potential rematch being held in Saudi Arabia during the Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou event. In contrast, Floyd Mayweather has chosen to remain silent on the matter, employing his characteristic strategic approach to communication. This quiet stance from Mayweather could be a calculated move, especially given the enthusiastic interest of Middle Eastern boxing investors 1ly pursuing the idea of hosting the fight during Riyadh Season in late 2024. Mayweather's reserved position might be part of a well-thought-out strategy to enhance the anticipation and negotiations surrounding the prospective event.

According to information gathered by WBN, Manny Pacquiao, who was present as a special guest at the Fury vs. Ngannou event, received an offer regarding the possibility of a rematch against Mayweather in Saudi Arabia. Sean Gibbons, representing Pacquiao, verified their interest in reinitiating discussions with Saudi Arabia for the potential bout. However, Gibbons added a note of caution, suggesting that Mayweather's enthusiasm for the rematch might not be as pronounced as it was in the past. The dynamics of Mayweather's interest or willingness to engage in talks could be subject to change, introducing an element of uncertainty into the negotiations.

“Everyone wants to see that fight again, except one person, and that's Floyd Mayweather,” stated Gibbons. "Manny has said this before, age is a number. He is still operating at the highest level of the sport and beginning camp this week in his hometown ahead of preparing for the April 20th exhibition fight in Thailand.”

"He is in the discussion every year. Everybody wants to see that fight again apart from one person and that is Floyd Mayweather. Floyd caught Manny at the right time and beat him. But Manny is light years ahead of him now because Floyd’s skills have diminished incredibly.”

"Manny’s hand speed is as fast as when he was at his peak, but Manny welcomes an exhibition or a rematch with Floyd and they talked about it in Japan. Manny is a fighter and an entertainer, whoever wants some can get some, but this is on Floyd. They have been in discussions in Japan for Floyd and Manny for two years."

Sean Gibbons, Manny Pacquiao's representative, underscored the potential benefits for Pacquiao in a rematch against Mayweather. Gibbons pointed out that Pacquiao has maintained his hand speed, while Mayweather's skills may have declined over time. Despite the anticipated challenges, talks are 1ly underway. Pacquiao has been in discussions with His Excellency Turki Alsheikh, expressing his strong desire to conclude his illustrious career with a significant bout in the Middle East. This strategic move aligns with Pacquiao's aspirations for a fitting conclusion to his remarkable boxing journey.

"Saudi Arabia would be a great place to end his career and he has always wanted to fight in the Middle East. I hope it works out, we are having discussions and Manny is talking to his Excellency Turki Alalshikh.” Sean Gibbons added, "Right now, the focus is his exhibition fight in Thailand and then hopefully Saudi Arabia and hypothetically”
