Shohei Ohtani, the star player for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is once again partnering with the major English conversation school ECC for a joint project aimed at inspiring the next generation. The “ECC SHOW YOUR DREAMS” initiative, now in its second year, invites 4th-grade elementary school students to 3rd-year high school students from all over Japan to apply for a chance to study in the US and stay with a host family.
This year’s program will be larger than last, with 50 students selected to participate. In 2023, the project received an overwhelming response, with over 20,000 applicants. About 100 students were chosen and had the opportunity to live in the US, experiencing the culture firsthand and interacting with people from different backgrounds. Ohtani, who proposed the idea, hopes that these immersive experiences will broaden the horizons of Japanese youth and create lasting memories.
Ohtani expressed his enthusiasm, saying through his representative, “I would be happy if this joint project with ECC could increase, even just a little, the opportunities for Japanese children to experience traveling abroad.”
Registration for applicants begins on December 17th, and the first round of selection will open on January 30, 2025. This is a unique opportunity for students to grow both academically and personally by stepping out of their comfort zones and engaging in a global exchange.
