The NBA's Biggest All-Star Snubs of 2025: Players Who Deserved a Spot but Got Left Out

The NBA's Biggest All-Star Snubs of 2025: Players Who Deserved a Spot but Got Left Out

Although a few instances stood out, there weren't many blatant All-Star snubs during the 2024–25 season.

Several deserving players missed out on selection for the All-Star team because the NBA features an unprecedented competitive depth. The NBA should recognize their efforts despite voters not selecting them for official voting purposes. The basketball community should grant them proper acknowledgment.

Before we continue, here’s the full list of selections for the Feb. 16 All-Star game, starting with the Western Conference.

  • West StartersStephen Curry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Nikola Jokić
  • West ReservesAnthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, James Harden, Jaren Jackson Jr., Alperen Şengün, Jalen Williams, Victor Wembanyama

Eastern Conference:

  • East StartersJalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns
  • East ReservesJaylen Brown, Cade Cunningham, Darius Garland, Tyler Herro, Damian Lillard, Evan Mobley, Pascal Siakam

Domantas Sabonis (Sacramento Kings)

Domantas Sabonis continues to generate superb statistics yet fails to earn an All-Star nomination for the second time in a row. Toward the end of the last season his missing from the All-Star team raised eyebrows. It's even worse this time. The statistics which put him among the best—20.9 points, 14.5 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game—failed to earn him a spot on the team. His defensive flaws do exist while his offensive performance delivers undeniable value through his skill set. The Kings below-average record should not have affected his All-Star worthy status since Booker undeniably belongs among the league's best players.

Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns)

Devin Booker despite him earning his position as an All-Star four times throughout the past five years. Booker maintains an elite scoring rhythm by averaging 25.5 points per game yet his efficiency in the game has slumped. His performance suffered likely because of the Suns' poor regular season results. His January performance failed to secure him a spot in the all-star team.

LaMelo Ball (Charlotte Hornets)

The unimpressive playoff standing of the Hornets together with LaMelo Ball's injury justify why All-Star recognition eluded him this season. A player who produces both 28 points and seven assists statistically should never be left out of an All-Star team. The injuries started taking their toll on his game before the ankle injury occurred because he averaged 24.2 points alongside a 40.1% shooting rate during his last 13 matches. His overall shooting numbers demonstrate inconsistency because he makes baskets at a 33.7% average from three-point range after taking many shots.

Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks)

People have constantly criticized Trae Young for his streak of accumulating voluminous statistics without converting them into winning results throughout his years and this season repeats the same pattern. With an average scoring total of 22.7 points per game and the highest league rate of 11.4 assists per game the Hawks currently have a 22-25 record.

Having both double-digit assist averages and a career-low usage rate qualifies him as one of only two players who should be considered for the All-Star spot. His subpar numbers in field goal percentage at 40.2% and three-point percentage at 34.2% potentially caused him to miss a spot in the All-Star team. Despite the surprising nature of his omission he remains unselected.

Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks)

Kyrie Irving delivers outstanding results earning 24.2 points per game at a 41.9% three-point mark from seven attempts per contest this season. The absence of Luka Dončić since late December became essential for Irving because he provided critical support to the Mavericks. His scoring ability combined with improved Mavericks team performance and boosted defensive work made his All-Star candidacy impossible to refute despite his past successful appearances.

The growing skill level in the NBA stands as the primary reason for the players who missed out on this year's All-Star event. The statistical accomplishments of players such as LaMelo and Maxey and Young would have merited their position among the All-Star candidates aside from LaVine and Johnson's effective seasons and Allen's dominant play. Among the excluded players Sabonis and Fox and Irving created the most striking case.

The selection deliberations were clearly influenced by both team achievement and player position and leg injuries. During the second half of the season these selected players maintain multiple opportunities to show their worth. The talented players listed on this snub list establish the depth of NBA talent that currently exists at never before seen levels.
