San Diego Padres pitcher Yu Darvish has been placed on the 60-day injured list (IL), the club announced on June 17 (JST). The 38-year-old right-hander, who has been sidelined since the start of the season with right elbow inflammation, is now targeting a return to action around the July All-Star Game.
As part of the roster adjustments, outfielder Bryce Johnson has been called up from the Padres' Triple-A El Paso affiliate, while catcher Luis Campusano has been sent down to the minors.
Darvish, who has not appeared in any major league games this season, was reported to have participated in a simulated game at the Padres' spring training facility in Peoria, Arizona, on June 15. According to team officials, he felt good after the session and is expected to continue working toward a full recovery.
While his exact timeline for return remains fluid, Darvish's next outing is expected to be in a game-like setting. Despite the setback, the Padres remain optimistic that Darvish will be back in time to contribute before or around the All-Star break.
Darvish was last seen at Dodger Stadium on the day of the announcement, where he made a brief appearance during the Padres' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
