Carlos Alcaraz Wins Beijing Finals Title in Epic Showdown Against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz Wins Beijing Finals Title in Epic Showdown Against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner

Sinner- Alcaraz match was everything fans expected it to be. The Spaniard made a spectacular title triumph at the China Open on Wednesday, and that enabled him to remain a flawless opponent of his most bitter rival all year.

Alcaraz ousted world no. 1 Sinner in a gripping encounter 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) in three hours twenty and one minutes to claim the champion’s trophy. Thus in the deciding set tiebreak Alcaraz saved 0/3 from the ground after he had lost his break advantage in the first and the third sets and proved to be most endemic in spite of his failure. The two players tussled till Djere outpointed Sinner seven consecutive games, thus making it the longest match inalian pro tournament.

“He could in two, I could win in two, he could win in three. It was a really close match,” said Alcaraz. “Jannik, once again, he showed that he’s the best player in the world, at least for me. The level that he’s playing, it’s unbelievable. It’s a really high quality of tennis. Of shots, physically, mentally, he’s a beast.”

Alcaraz is leading Sinner now 6-4 in their head to head Lexus ATP after winning all three matches they had this year at Indian Wells, Roland Garros, and Beijing. Cancelling each other’s perfect records for the first time in their series this year, it has become a staple of the ATP Tour since their first meeting in 2021. As for that, this is the first time that one player has won three matches from the other consecutively.

He has a hold of 18 out of his latest 19 tiebreaks before the high-stakes match took place. Alcaraz though had incredible courage and desire to win as he had to fight from a set and 0/3 to play his best Tennis to take the final few points.

“I played great points just to make 3-all and after that I just thought to go for it. If I lost it, at least I went for it. So that’s all I thought in that moment.”

“I never lost hope," said Alcaraz. "Honestly I knew that [when I started it] that every tie-break Jannik plays is almost to his side. I thought that in the third set, I’m not going to lie, 3-love down, two mini breaks for him. So I didn’t lose hope, but I thought, ‘Okay, I have to give everything that I have just to try to give myself the opportunity to be close.’

Whatever Alcaraz had made it a record of becoming the first player to win ATP 500 championship on three types of surfaces: Hard, Clay, and Grass after his conquest of Beijing on hard court starting the series from 2009. Probably at 21, he has established himself as one of the most energetic tennis players in the industry. Then, at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, he will have the company of Sinner.

This victory brought the head-to-head scores in the battle for the ATP Year-End rankings leader to an equal level, with Alcaraz coming out a winner to decrease Sinner’s lead. Sinner is still ahead in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin that decides the No. 1 player of the year by 2,820 points despite the Alcaraz triumph.

“During the whole week I’ve been playing great tennis,” said Alcaraz of his Beijing run. “Probably sometimes the luck went to my side a little bit in the matches. But in general I feel great on court, I feel great off the court as well with my team.

“It’s really important to feel like you are in a good mood all the time off the court, just try to show good tennis and be calm on the court. I think I couldn’t ask for a better week here in Beijing and I will try to keep going.”

It might well have been his stamina reached its final climax as he went on to clinch a rather dominating win on court, all largely due to his sanitized figures at the net a la Alcaraz. A four forming grand Slam winner had the upper hand in this particular aspect; as per the Infosys ATP Stats he clinched 74 percent of the points at the net out of which 25 percent were limited to 34 percent. This was the eighth straight tour level triumph for the Argentine and the second closest ATP Tour final of the year, behind only Hamburg.
