Entering Free Agency, Yankees Juan Soto Aims to Shatter Shohei Ohtani's $700M Record

Entering Free Agency, Yankees Juan Soto Aims to Shatter Shohei Ohtani's $700M Record

This comes from one of the best free agency hitters who standing at $700 million, or slightly more, for his desired contract. This amount of money is not negligible whereas there is a record deal of $700M contract signed by the Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani with Dodgers that is primarily a huge moral victory with majority of actual money yet to be paid.

Eight other franchises tried to get in touch with Soto, in order to explore the chances they have in terms of signing him, within two hours after the Yankees’ crushing loss to the Dodgers; and Ohtani; in Game 5 of the World Series. With the working days that follow, the number of concerned parties escalated to eleven in the morning of Thursday. Long before Soto becomes officially a free agent, the rumors about the $700 million have already surfaced, despite teams being barred from revealing the exact financial details for a couple of days.

The press might have caught Soto in a careless mood during game 5 but this seems not to be the truth because he seemed to have enjoyed his time with the Yankees. The Yankees view him as both a great guy, as well as a great asset in terms of his performance, but they also realize that it is the deal, as well as the need to succeed that will be the main determinants in his case.

While one may think that the Yankees appears to be ready to sign Soto for 13-years, it has been speculated that Soto may be eyeing an option of not less than 14 years given that he wants to play till ages 40. He would be able to make about $50 million a year, without any deferred payment if he accepts a contract that will take about $700 million if he does it at that time.

It does not seem to be a problem for the Yankees that Aaron Judge earn $40 million. Rather, they are fixated on sustaining the highest-drama left-right power dynamic baseball has ever seen. The Judge is only focused on being able to secure another title than keeping a shackled salary cap for the franchise. Some sources indicate that Soto has said that all the 30 clubs are level, but that having him on the list and allowing him in the clubhouse would be one-upmanship.

Mets, led by the league’s wealthiest owner, Steven Cohen, who will surely pursue Soto, and the financially savvy Dodgers, who have been shielded by the Ohtani megadeal, can match the Yanks with the Bronx Bombers, this year’s highest-revenue club in their league.

Interestingly, only two small market clubs have expressed their interest already and it’s believed that large market clubs such as the the Giants, Blue Jays and Red Sox will likely follow. While the Yankees are seen being represented by Judge, and the Dodgers completely controlled by Ohtani some clubs have placed their bets on Soto as their future superstar. However, when Soto is being presented with his choices, then it becomes somewhat clear that the difference between these two ideas is not all that relevant.

Soto says it as it is as the humiliating defeat gave the Dodgers the position of the world champions, saying no team has an upper hand as the derby approaches. He was strong and unyielding even when the media were all over him grilling him on the stand.

“We’re going to be available to every team. I feel like every team has the same opportunity,” Soto said after Game 5. “I don’t want to say anybody has the advantage because, at the end of the day, we’re going to look at what we have and how much they want me.”

“I’m really happy with the city, with the team. But at the end of the day, we will see,” he said. “We’re going to look at every situation, every offer and a decision from there.”

As for Soto friends claims that he hasn’t come out unequivocally and said that the Yankees have a clear advantage in this free agent sweepstakes, friends say he mostly had a good/is most of the time in New York. Over time, Soto has been known to be strictly positive and hardly complain or show his hand, but he had thanked the club house atmosphere and Aaron Judge.
