Finally, Corey Anderson can proudly declare himself as a champion.
In the main event of Bellator Belfast on Friday night, Corey Anderson secured the light heavyweight championship, achieving success after three attempts. Despite previous setbacks, Anderson's unwavering determination and grappling prowess prevailed as he outworked Karl Moore to claim the title. This victory marked a significant milestone in Anderson's career, highlighting his perseverance and resilience in pursuit of championship glory.
In the initial round of the fight, Karl Moore managed to land significant strikes on Corey Anderson, including heavy left punches and a head kick, momentarily causing Anderson to feel the impact. However, Anderson swiftly reacted by executing a takedown, enabling him to dominate the rest of the round, regain his composure, and reassess his strategy.
Later stages of the first round, Anderson found success with a takedown and decided to focus entirely on wrestling for the win. Moore defended well, but Anderson kept him pinned against the cage. However, in the third round, Anderson's insistence on grappling almost cost him the match when Moore locked in a strong armbar. Anderson had to scramble hard to break free from the hold.
In moments when the fight remained standing and within striking range, Moore showcased his striking skills effectively, landing several clean punches. However, Moore struggled to maintain these moments as Anderson consistently closed the distance and shifted the bout towards grappling exchanges.
Following five rounds of intense action, Anderson secured a unanimous decision victory with judges scoring the bout 49-46, 49-46, and 50-45 in his favor.
In the initial bout against Nemkov, Anderson had been performing well, dictating the pace of the fight. However, an accidental clash of heads occurred near the end of the third round, resulting in the fight being ruled a no-contest. Their second meeting saw Anderson facing difficulties from the start, as he struggled to match Nemkov's intensity and was ultimately defeated by unanimous decision.
Following Vadim Nemkov's departure from the light heavyweight division to compete in the heavyweight category, Corey Anderson capitalized on the vacancy, securing his first major championship title in his third attempt.
