Giants Extend Lead with Sweep of Hiroshima, Rakuten Snaps Skid as Seibu Sets Loss Record

As of September 12, 2024, the Yomiuri Giants, currently leading the Central League, completed a three-game sweep of second-place Hiroshima Carp, extending their lead to 4 games. The Giants secured a 5-0 victory, with key hits from Hayato Sakamoto and Kazuma Okamoto, and a 9th-inning home run by Yoshihiro Maru. Hiroshima, now on a four-game losing streak, finds itself tied with the third-place Hanshin Tigers. Meanwhile, Yakult Swallows triumphed over Chunichi Dragons 9-4, securing their second consecutive win.

 

In the Pacific League, Rakuten ended a four-game skid with a 7-3 victory over Seibu. Rakuten's Sei Fujii earned his ninth win, while Seibu marked their 85th loss of the season, setting a new franchise record. This game solidified Rakuten’s fourth-place standing, snapping their losing streak, while Seibu's struggles worsened, maintaining their position at the bottom of the Pacific League. Despite their efforts, Seibu couldn't break their losing trend in the league.
