‘I Was Just Going!’ Luka Dončić Scores Franchise-Record 73, Tied for 4th in History!

Friday night in Atlanta, Luka Dončić displayed an unstoppable performance, shrugging off taunts from Hawks fans and dominating the home team with an impressive 73-point performance, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 148–143 victory.

Dončić contributed with 10 rebounds and seven assists, showcasing remarkable accuracy by making 25 of his 33 field goal attempts, thereby securing his place in the history books alongside other iconic one-name legends.

Establishing a historic milestone, the Mavericks witnessed a record-breaking single-game scoring feat of 73 points, surpassing the previous mark set by Luka Dončić's 60-point performance against the New York Knicks in December 2022.

This remarkable performance not only established a new Mavericks' single-game scoring record but also stands as the fourth-highest point total in NBA history, sharing company with legendary names such as Wilt Chamberlain (100 points), Kobe Bryant (81 points), and Chamberlain again (78 points).

“Being able to change shots [was impactful]. I thought he did an incredible job on the offensive boards, giving us second or third opportunities there,” Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said of Lively’s return.

Despite being just 19 years old, Lively has emerged as a crucial asset for the Mavericks, proving his significance by contributing significantly to the team's success. The Mavericks have faced challenges, going 0-2 in games when Lively was unavailable this season, emphasizing his impact alongside key players like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Speaking of Irving, the eight-time All-Star started off slow with just five first-half points, but put up 22 in the second half and finished with 27 while shooting just 8-22 overall. Irving was a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line, though, and he also dished out five assists — two of them being alley-oops to Lively.

Luka currently maintains an average of 34.6 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.6 rebounds per game this season.

Doncic’s previous career best was 60 points. He made 25 of 33 shots in Dallas’ 148-143 win over Atlanta, plus went 15 of 16 from the foul line and 8 of 13 from 3-point range.

In a notable feat, Booker became only the third player in NBA history to achieve multiple 60-point games in defeats, joining the exclusive company of Wilt Chamberlain (11 instances) and Michael Jordan (two occurrences).

Booker, who once scored 70 points in a game (also in a loss to Boston in 2017), showcased his scoring skills by making 22 of 37 shots, sinking 12 of 13 free throws, and hitting 6 of 12 three-pointers in the Suns' close 133-131 loss to Indiana, narrowly missing a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer on Friday.

Despite scoring at least 59 points in three separate games throughout his career, the Suns have unfortunately not secured a victory in any of those instances.

“He’s a spectacular player,” Suns coach Frank Vogel said. “I think he should have been voted to be an All-Star starter, personally. I think the whole world can see that. He’ll be in that game when the coaches vote (for the reserves). What a special performance.”

Only the fifth in NBA history and the second within the same week, two players achieved the extraordinary feat of scoring at least 60 points in a single game. The previous instance took place on April 9, 1978, when David Thompson scored 73 points, and George Gervin scored 63. This exceptional event marked a significant gap of nearly 46 years before Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns replicated the feat.
