The injury-ridden Dallas Mavericks faced another setback on March 4 (JST) as star guard Kyrie Irving went down with a left knee sprain during a critical game against the Sacramento Kings.
With the Mavericks currently sitting in 10th place and battling for a higher seed, every game is crucial. However, disaster struck late in the first quarter when Irving attempted a drive to the basket. After going up for a shot, he landed awkwardly and immediately clutched his left knee, collapsing to the floor in pain. The arena fell silent as concern spread among players and fans.
Despite the injury, Irving showed resilience by staying on the court to sink two free throws before being helped off by team staff. Unfortunately, his absence was deeply felt, and the Mavericks struggled to keep up with the Kings, ultimately losing 98-122.
The Mavericks have been dealing with a string of injuries this season, making their playoff push even more challenging. The team recently parted ways with franchise cornerstone Luka Dončić and acquired star big man Anthony Davis in a major trade. However, injuries to Davis and other key players have left Dallas in a tough position as they fight to stay in contention.
