Islam Makhachev Dominates at UFC 311, Underpaid But Reigns as Pound-for-Pound King

Islam Makhachev Dominates at UFC 311, Underpaid But Reigns as Pound-for-Pound King

On saturday night Renato Moicano left shedding a base salary that was way much more than that of Islam Makhachev.

When the up-and-comer Arman Tsarukyan pulled out of UFC 311 with less than 24 hours’ notice, the loudmouthed Brazilian was more than happy to fill the void. He failed to win but his courage and persistence showed that he deserved a bonus for his fight at the last ditched effort.

Moicano was set to fight Beneil Dariush as the undercard to the main event bout. Nevertheless, Moicano received a quick step up to the headliner bout because the top contender, Arman Tsarukyan, had to withdraw due to back issues.

But if things are not going to be good for him, then at least he was willing to stand when it counts not only for the UFC but exemplified his perseverance. He now wants to make his mark on the elite and try to restart his climb back to the division’s pinnacle.

The official UFC 311 overnight purses for fighters have been made public by the California State Athletic Commission for the UFC event that was held Saturday night at the Intuit Dome. Some of the primary sources of incomes such as sponorships, performance bonuses and any other pay-per-view incomes are excluded.

It is clear that no matter these restrictions imposed on fighter’s salaries, base earnings list was headed by Renato Moicano who took home $250,000 for saving the main event. Islam Makhachev for his part got $200,000. Ultimately, when all profit making possibilities are considered, the actual rewards should be much higher.

Islam Makhachev asserted something much more significant on Saturday night: a victory that is somewhat beyond the dollars and cents even though the said pay-offs would not paint the whole picture. Regardless of the fact that he switched his opponent in the last moment, he kept his nerves and entertained the Californian people amazingly.

While Makhachev was trained for months to face Arman Tsarukyan — a fighter  who mostly relies on his takedowns and submission skills — Renato Moicano is entirely different style of an opponent. And rubbing this, but he moved to the octagon and delivered a great finish, and never got distracted.
