Japan Exceeds Expectations with 20 Gold Medals and Third Place at Paris Olympics

Japan Exceeds Expectations with 20 Gold Medals and Third Place at Paris Olympics

It was astonishing to see Japan win at the Paris Games as it displayed a variety of feats ranging from youthful novelty activities such as skateboarding and breaking to historically considered Olympic events such as wrestling and fencing. The various athletes of the country found themselves attaining almost this kind of success through having youthful strength and vigor combined with the years of experience.

Was able to secure more gold and total medals than any other Olympics that have been conducted in a different country though it did not get near its record-breaking Tokyo 2020 performance. This success underlines the shift in dominance in a range of athletic events, and Japan’s ability and persistence in the international environment.

Japan had achieved twenty medal mark precisely and this was much over the national Olympic committee target. This showing is even more impressive as the nation took a lesser delegation to Paris with 409 athletes as opposed to the 552 that competed in Tokyo in 1964. In spite of having a lower number of players to select from, athletes from Japan rose to the occasion in each one of the events, affirming the motives that it is quality over quantity that counts.

"We had the best result at an Olympics outside home soil," On Sunday, Japan's deputy chef de mission, Kosei Inoue, emphasized that the country had won medals in ten new Olympic categories. "It proves our athletes are performing to their abilities in battles that are fought among the best of the best."  "We see this as a very big achievement."

Wrestling was also among the most successful games of the Olympics where the winner from Japan was discovered as having bagged 8 out of the total gold medals. Of the total, four emerged from men’s division and the two talented athletes included, Kenichiro Fumita and Nao Kusaka who clinched the first Japanese Greco-Roman championships in forty years. undefined Several new golds were introduced at the event, and the women’s squad increased their tally from the five wrestling golds they won in the 2021 Games to four golds this year.

After that, many gymnasts emerged from the gymnastics team of Kohei Uchimura and Daiki Hashimoto’s men’s artistic gymnastics, and one of the new faces is Shinnosuke Oka. Oka was the All around champion and took Japan’s dominance in the Championship further and surpassed Tokyo Gymnastics gold tally by winning two more gold in horizontal bar and Team championship.

Following the footsteps of Kohei Uchimura and Daiki Hashimoto, Shinnosuke Oka rise to prominence and became the future of the men’s artistic gymnastics in Japan. Such achievement not only gave Oka the gold in the team and horizontal bar categories but also set Japan’s record in gymnastic apart from Tokyo by clinching the all-around championship and leaving no doubt about Japan’s domination of the event. Kohei Uchimura and Daiki Hashimoto made the first steps for the new generation of gymnasts in Japan, and Shinnosuke Oka joined them. In addition to this, Oka topped Japan’s record in gymnastic s from Tokyo by clinching an all-around title which further cemented Japan’s dominance in the event after clinching victories in team and horizontal bar competitions.

"I had this very same dream ever since I was 10 years old, and I always worked very hard and fought, because I wanted to excel and reach my dream," Oka said.

The Japanese did not seem to be easing after their triumph at the Tokyo Games where they scooped every event that had street skating in it. With his championship title victory, it can be said that Yuto Horigome has left his mark in skateboarding history. Meanwhile, newcomer Coco Yoshizawa conquered the women’s scenario and ensured that the title would remain in the hands of the Japanese people. The Japanese talent in skating hence rises with talent and this shows the domination of the Japanese in the global skateboarding events.

"I don't want to think about the Los Angeles Olympics in four years yet. The young Japanese boarders are too amazing and I'm not sure if my body and mind can keep up with them till then," the 25-year-old Horigome said.

Despite not always creating the intended heroes, Japan continued to dominate wrestling, judo, gymnastics, and skateboarding. More upsets fostered a relatively even playing field while some upsets ended in a loss. Another memorable fencing moment was the win of Japan claiming the gold in a monumental victory in the final of the men’s foil team to deny the host nation, France, a clean sweep of gold medals in fencing.

Ogata attributed the ongoing support by the government for sports and initiatives such as information exchange between international sports associations to the exceptional performance of Team Japan in Paris. He mentioned fencing as an example that could highlight well the outcome of these efforts. In particular, Ogata emphasized that the advancement of Japan as a country and the subsequent improvement of sports performance in the country would require information science.

"We'll look to start our preparations early for the Los Angeles Games in four years."

"We need to think about how to get to the podium if we rise to the best four, and to figure out how we can compete better in the final once we reach that stage," he said. "Having so many events with first-time medals is a huge result for us."
