Kevin Durant Joins Exclusive 30,000-Point Club, Becomes 8th All-Time Scorer in NBA History

Kevin Durant Joins Exclusive 30,000-Point Club, Becomes 8th All-Time Scorer in NBA History

Phoenix Suns Kevin Durant among one of the prolific NBA scorers added another chapter to his NBA legacy by reaching 30000 points during Tuesday night's game. Kevin Durant established his standing as a league great by becoming one of only eight players to pass 30,000 career points during his head-to-head against Memphis Grizzlies.

Durant achieved the historic mark when he scored his twenty-sixth point during the game. His 34-point achievement brought his professional scoring total to 30,008 points. The scoring milestone positions Durant to advance further in NBA history but his next targets remain Wilt Chamberlain at sixth place with 31,419 points and Dirk Nowitzki at seventh place with 31,560 points.

Due to the season-ending Achilles injury during 2019-20 and his reduced playing time in following seasons Kevin Durant would potentially hold a better position on the NBA historical scoring records. Durant possibly could have competed for the highest three positions behind Abdul-Jabbar and James if he stayed healthy.

The injuries did not stop Durant from remaining at the top of his game. He reached 30,000 points within 1,101 matches at the same pace as Abdul-Jabbar tied in the history of the third-fastest scoring achievement.

The time missed from injuries will not prevent Durant from surpassing Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan at the top of NBA scoring records due to potential remaining seasons in his career. His exceptional abilities create a realistic opportunity for him to surpass many active and former NBA performers.

His nearly perfect shooting technique and his versatile offensive skills that reach every section of the court have established Durant as a devastating offensive force at his 6-foot-11 height. Durant maintains successful offensive production whether he approaches the basket for a layup or shoots from the mid-range or beyond the arc. The exceptional shooting performance of his career highlights Field goal 50.1%, 3-point 38.7% and Free Throw 88.2% accuracy percentages.

NBA's all-time leading scorers

  • Karl Malone: 36,928
  • Kobe Bryant: 33,643
  • Michael Jordan: 32,292
  • Dirk Nowitzki: 31,560
