LeBron James Shocks Fans with “Major Announcement” That Turns Out to Be Hennessy Ad

On Tuesday, the league's all-time top scorer once again shocked the world by making what he called his "Second Decision"; however, this time, it had nothing to do with hanging up his sneakers.

LeBron James surprised fans by releasing a video that mimicked his famous 2010 special, The Decision, in which he told Jim Gray that he was "taking his talents to South Beach" by leaving Cleveland to join the Miami Heat. Echoing the same dramatic tone and nostalgic cues that once rocked the basketball world, the parody was spot on.

This time, however, the announcement had nothing to do with changing teams or leaving the game. The four-time NBA champion instead took use of the occasion to reveal a savvy marketing partnership with Hennessy cognac. What at first glance appeared to be a huge career statement was actually a promotional genius that demonstrated that LeBron still understands how to demand attention both on and off the court.

Described as “a bold collector’s edition designed to inspire fans to connect, celebrate, and embrace a new era of sociability,” the statement carried the brand’s signature elegance — a fusion of luxury, legacy, and cultural flair that mirrored the spirit of LeBron James himself. It is available in a few markets worldwide this month.

But not everybody was toasting. Many supporters felt duped since they thought the announcement would signal LeBron's long-awaited retirement. The Lakers' 2025–26 regular-season finale against the Utah Jazz saw ticket prices soar from $82 to an incredible $580 per seat due to the anticipation of a final season, according to ESPN.

Nevertheless, LeBron's stats reveal a guy who is far from finished. He finished sixth in the MVP voting last season with averages of 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. He is a four-time NBA champion, a 21-time All-Star, and a four-time MVP. James has maintained impressive stats of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game throughout his storied career, demonstrating that the King's reign is far from ended even at 40.

LeBron James remains the clear all-time leader in the NBA's record books in terms of both points (42,184) and minutes played (59,041). In a league that hardly ever forgives time, his career has transcended periods, changed the course of the game, and redefined longevity.

Now that he has already played 1,562 games, which is the second-most in NBA history, James is about to reach yet another milestone. He is on track to eclipse Robert Parish's historic record of 1,611 games, securing yet another chapter in his illustrious career, provided he stays healthy and active. For a player who has climbed almost all of the statistics mountains, the top of the mountain somehow keeps rising.
