Despite trying their best and leading Denver 19-7 at one stage, the Dallas Mavericks suffered a defeat on Sunday and are now 22-17 on the season, having failed to overcome yet another tough loss. Their 3-7 record in the last 10 games is only similar to that of the Utah Jazz and the New Orleans Pelicans – that is why the defeat puts the team into the fifth position in the West.
Mavericks are at a 3-6 after Dončić missed the match on the Christmas day due to a calf injury. This has become even tougher after the absence of Kyrie Irving owing to a back problem. Dallas is barely treading water in the unforgiving pool known as the Western Conference, where nearly every matchup is a fight for survival.
What used to be called a “easy game” does not exist anymore in the NBA of today and the Dallas Mavericks fans are getting impatient with every game. Each game is a war, and with every tough loss fans want to see Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving get back on the court more.
Dončić is not allowed to be nominated as MVP or be considered part of the All NBA Team since he missed his 17th game of the season against Denver. This finally puts an official stop to his consecutive records of five All-NBA First Team selections. Now these honors are impossible which is an unpalatable situation for the celebrity and those who follow him religiously irrespective of how strong Dončić maybe when he comes back.
Mavericks’ Luka Dončić is now among the athletes who will not be included on the 2024- 25 NBA AWARDS like an increasing tendency of celebrities. Some of the players in this list Include Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid, Zion Williamson, Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren; none of who was able to meet the league recognition standards this season.
The coach of the Mavericks in a league, Jason Kidd, had his say on the decision to lock Luka Dončić outside the league MVP competition due to game inactivity. Kidd spoke about the rough truth of the league’s requirements and discussed how it was to play without Dončić and whether his star could get an individual award.
“Yeah, it’s fair because the league made it a rule, so we will play by the rules,” Jason Kidd said, “Unfortunately he isn’t eligible to win the MVP, but it’s a team sport and understanding that we need him back to win the championship… The individual awards will come, but we’re playing to win a championship and hopefully we can get him back soon.”
For Luka Dončić getting the NBA title for the Dallas Mavericks is still an ultimate goal. The Mavericks star, who is only 25 years old, has been questioned about his chances of winning the league MVP award, but his answer is consistently the same: he places the importance of winning a championship for the Dallas on top of all else.
But without its two superstars the journey has been tough. The Mavericks are now 2-4 in the games, which they played after the injury of Kyrie Irving and Dončić, the recent loss to the Denver Nuggets only emphasizes how vital they are for their team.
